Katatonia plan anniversary shows

Katatonia

Katatonia have announced two extra European shows for later this year.

They’ll play Plovdiv’s Roman Theatre, Bulgaria, on September 22 and London’s O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire on October 21 to celebrate the band’s 25th anniversary. The gigs will also mark 10 years since the release of their seventh album The Great Cold Distance.

Founding member Anders Nystrom says: “We once put up a poll asking fans which Katatonia album was their all-time favourite. The Great Cold Distance won.

“Over the years there is probably no other album from which we played more songs live and there’s probably no other album with the same amount of songs that still remain in our setlist.

“So with mutual love for our decade old distance, we decided to celebrate its anniversary by playing the whole damn thing for you, on two different occasions. First in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, with an orchestra and later in London without an orchestra.”

They’ll perform two sets at the shows, with the first featuring their 2006 release and the second consisting of career-spanning material plus tracks from their latest album The Fall Of Hearts, which is set for launch on May 20 via Peaceville Records.

Tickets for the shows go on sale from 10am local time on April 15 (Friday).

The band have also lined up further shows for 2016, with dates across Europe and South America.
