Skindred Benji: I'll live with these scars forever

Skindred frontman Benji Webbe has described the terrifying attack which saw him glassed and his partner spat at and assaulted.

The singer had been at his friend Iffy Harris’ birthday part in Newport on Friday night and the attack happened as he and Julie Christian made their way home. Webbe describes being “slashed across the face and throat” and says Christian was “dragged around” by a group of women.

He says: “Thank you all so much for all your concern and well wishes, it makes all the difference and means the world to us. As you can imagine, this has been quite an ordeal.

“Julie, fortunately, was not physically hurt but the whole thing has taken a toll on us both. For me to be slashed across the face and the throat, for Julie to be dragged around and spat at by a group of women who glassed me… just know that we will rise above this and remain positive and in love.

“Newport is my home town and I still love it and the community we have. Big up.”

Webbe has also uploaded a further picture of his injuries to his Facebook page, saying he’ll live with the scars for the rest of his life.

Skindred released latest album Volume last October via Napalm Records and are lined up to play at this year’s Download festival.

They’re also scheduled to perform at Studio Coast in Koto, Japan, on Valentine’s Day.
