The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air was one of the hardest hitting reality shows ever broadcast on US television. The programme, which aired for six series over 148 episodes from 1990 to 1996, followed the life of a displaced teen (Will) who left the violent streets of West Philadelphia for the luxury and safety of his relatives’ palatial home in Los Angeles.
The programme ceased filming 20 years ago this week.
Apart from the cast of characters – his uncle Philip, aunt Vivian, cousins Carlton, Hilary and Ashley, butler Geoffrey and mate Jazz – the programme was also notable for its memorable theme tune, performed by the star of the show, Will ‘The Fresh Prince’ Smith.
To celebrate the enduring popularity of The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air, YouTuber 331Erock has recorded a cover of the song with a distinctly metal flavour. He basically shreds the shit out of it, to be honest.
“So this cover has been suggested for about four years now,” says the guitarist. “I finally decided to build up the balls to tackle perfection. I know this is the show’s version of the song which is cut a little shorter, but I figured that”s the one everyone would sing along with anyway. What can I say? I grew up with The Fresh Prince. I still love it today and laugh my ass off…”
Which TV show theme would benefit from the satisfying crunch of a metal riff? Let us know below.
