Much to our surprise, 2016 has turned out to be an extraordinary year for deathcore, with fantastic new records from the likes of Despised Icon, Carnifex, Whitechapel and Chelsea Grin, not to mention a new Suicide Silence album on the way before the end of the year. Perhaps the biggest surprise is that the relatively unknown Lord Of War have delivered the finest album of the lot. The San Diego crew’s second full-length Suffer absolutely trounces all-comers with an exhilarating blend of ultra-modern brutality, irresistible grooves, chilling atmospherics and some startlingly refined and mature songwriting.
