Destiny: Rise of Iron heralds the end of Destiny on PS3 and Xbox 360

Destiny: Rise of Iron

It looks like Bungie is beginning to call time on their support for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Destiny.

From August they will begin stripping back the features that will be available to players on PS3 and Xbox 360 starting with live events, Trials of Osiris and Iron Banner Crucible matches.

They’ll also be reducing items made available to players through Exotic item seller Xur. Around the same time the first load of live features disappear Xur will stop selling Exotic weapons and armour to PS3 and Xbox 360 players although Exotic and legacy Exotic engrams will still be available.

Finally they will be disabling all methods of purchasing the in-game transaction currency called Silver which can be used to buy personalisation items like Emotes.

All of this is in preparation for the arrival of the Rise of Iron expansion on PS4 and Xbox One on September the 20th.

There is nothing to fear though as Bungie has prepared a method for Destiny players to transfer their characters from the older console versions into the PS4 and Xbox One versions. It’s worth noting that the account import procedure is carried out through either Playstation network or Xbox Live so PS3 players will only be able to upgrade to PS4 and Xbox 360 players will only be able to upgrade to Xbox One.

The transfer system will go online some time in August ahead of the launch of Destiny: Rise of Iron and more information on what is going on is available over on the support pages at Bungie.net.
