3 Minutes With Babymetal

Last Saturday Babymetal played to a sold-out Brixton O2 Academy in what was only their third ever UK performance. But before they danced and partied all holy hell out of the 5000 strong crowd, we caught up with Su-metal, Yuimetal and Moametal to find out about the new album and the Fox God.

It’s hard to ignore the monumental success of Babymetal since their inception at Sonisphere this summer, so when we had the chance to meet up for a second time it was a no-brainer.

Here we talk to the three-girl tour de force about the experience of playing a metal festival, how Gimme Chocolate came together and how they’re planning on celebrating Christmas – seemingly by celebrating Su-metal’s birthday (which you know will be at last 60 times more bonkers than yours).

Luke Morton joined Metal Hammer as Online Editor in 2014, having previously worked as News Editor at popular (but now sadly defunct) alternative lifestyle magazine, Front. As well as helming the Metal Hammer website for the four years that followed, Luke also helped relaunch the Metal Hammer podcast in early 2018, producing, scripting and presenting the relaunched show during its early days. He also wrote regular features for the magazine, including a 2018 cover feature for his very favourite band in the world, Slipknot, discussing their turbulent 2008 album, All Hope Is Gone.
