Thirteen years is a long time in music. Plenty of iconic bands have fitted their entire career into a shorter time frame; entire scenes and sub genres can rise to prominence and fade away into obscurity in that time.

What an achievement, then, that thirteen years after their well-received debut full-length, 2012's Mournful Cry Of A Dying Sun, Jordan's Falling Leaves have returned with a follow-up album that has their brand of emotionally-charged, propulsive death-doom sounding every bit as vital and relevant to the modern metal world as ever.

Put simply: fans of Katatonia, My Dying Bride, Swallow The Sun and Paradise Lost need this band and this album in their lives. It tells a story of a band who had all but disappeared from the metal scene after such a promising start, only to return, re-energised and sounding more energised and exciting as ever.

Take the swaggering, marching stomp of The Angel On My Shoulder, which manages to be richly atmospheric while staying decidedly metal as hell, or the emotive We Are Alone, which melds crushing, doomy riffage with twinkling, melancholic piano. There is also a beautiful bit of narrative connective tissue with Re-Silence (Part III), the third entry in Falling Leaves' ongoing Silence epic. Opening with another burst of delicate piano and a flourish of warm acoustic guitar, it evolves into one of The Silence That Binds Us's most stirring compositions, a beautiful closing chapter to the album.

Touching on themes of silence, darkness, resilience and hope, The Silence That Binds Us is a record that finds the beauty in the black, the glory in the gloom. Self-released as a triumphant symbol of the band's independence, the record is available in a limited edition CD digipack for fans that still appreciate the importance of physical art.

From Jordan to the world, Falling Leaves are crafting music that is atmospheric, heartfelt and rooted deeply within death and doom metal's richest traditions.
